Keelung Night Market
The night market alongside the Dianji Temple is a very popular snacks street. Due to special historical reasons, the variety of food here is very abundant, mainly the diet of immigrants originally from Fuchien Province of China, and later mixed up with the diets of aboriginal tribes, the Netherlands, the Spanish and the Japanese. On top of this, KMT govern’t also brought in various kinds of food from many provinces of China in 1949, all these foods are then mixed up and gradually transformed into a versatile gourmet of all kinds, both eastern and western style of food, they are named the typical Taiwanese Snacks.
Zhengbin Fishing Harbor Colorful House
Zhengbin Fishing Harbor, located at the south of Heping Island, is considered more laid back. The Port is built by the Japanese in 1934, and it was the biggest fishing port in Taiwan during the Japanese era. Although it gradually declined afterwards, its down-to-earth appearance endures. The city is actively seeking to preserve it as a place for relaxation and nostalgia. There has been a boat named “Folk Art” at Zhengbin Fishing Harbor. It was the first art museum on the sea. Besides, it also held dragon boat race and some activities, which were quite popular.
Zhongzheng Park
Zhongzheng Park is situated on the side of Dashawan Mountain, which is in the east of Keelung City. There is a white statue of Goddess of Mercy in the park. This 25-meter high statue has become one of the characteristics of Keelung. The park overlooks Keelung City and the harbor. There are three levels in the park. On the first level is a historic cannon fort. On the second level is a Buddhist library, Martyrs’ Shrine, and Zhuputan Temple. The temple attracts many worshipers on July 15. On the third level is Guanhai Pavilion. Sitting in the pavilion, visitors can see the entire Keelung and the ocean. The statue of Goddess of Mercy is the landmark of Zhongzheng Park. It is the biggest Goddess statue in Southeast Asia. Inside the statue is a stairway leading to the top. Zhuputan is where worshipers gather on Zhongyuan Festival. The first immigrants to Taiwan used to fight with each other for land. In order to stop the disputes, they set up a temple for annual worship. The temple was in Gaosha Park during the Japanese ruling era and moved to Zhongzheng Park. The Big Buddha Monastery of Guanyin in the park has become a landmark for ships coming back to the port. Maitreya Buddha with a laugh all the time welcomes every tourist’s visit. The towering and magnificent Chupu Altar is the official place of ghost festival in Keelung Harbor. From the pavilion, you can look over the Keelung Harbor district in which ships come back and forth. It is also a good place to view the seascape at dusk.
Heping Island Park
Heping Island is originally named as “She-liao island”. Heping Island is the doorway to Keelung Harbor. It was a settlement of Kaitaglan Tribe at the early times. Currently, a seashore park was set up along with the coast. Inside the park, one will see the important terrain of marine abrasion, including marine cliff, abrasion platform, and abrasion fosse as well as the famous “bean curd rock” and pedestal rock. Apart from the spectacular terrain, the body fossil and trace fossils are considered treasures for geological studies. Be sure to take a good look at the seashore plants for it is amazing that they can survive under unfavorable conditions. During the ebb, one can step on the abrasion platform to see the strand plants and all the different rocks and stones. Take a break to sit down on the rock to listen to the waves and enjoy the amazing gift of nature. However, please do not go down to the marine cliff for the rock otherwise that might break down at any moment.
※ The park is equipped with Muslim friendly toilets and a barrier-free tour environment.
※ Visitors entering should pay attention to their safety near the water area and jointly maintain the clean environment of the park.

Fairy Cave
Fairy Cave is situated in the mountain to the northwest of Keelung Harbor. Originally, it was an eroded hole. The cave was formed by ocean’s abrasion after hundreds of years. The over 80-meter marine cave is the biggest one in Keelung. This cave can be divided into two parts: the right cave and the left cave. The latter is wide and the former is deep. According to the literature written during the Japanese colonial period, one could stand in the cave to listen to the amazing echo of the wave. There are carvings of Buddha on the wall and much calligraphy carving from the Qing Dynasty. Besides, at the cave mouth stands a gigantic sculpture of Buddha for people to worship.
Taiping Bleu&Book
Standing on the mountain village Taiping, Taiping Elementary School was closed in 2017 because there were too few students. However, it overlooks the harbor city beneath, and this advantage has turned it into a special location to read the spatial structure and rich history of Keelung. As one of the few open areas in this mountain village, Keelung City Government attempts to accommodate this place’s geographical features, making it the latest tourist attraction on the West Coast .
After Taiping Elementary School stopped recruitment, it became the secret base of Keelung City Government first. Numerous meetings are held in this very place, and government employees paid great effort here. The architects who were responsible for this project boldly broke down the floors, unfolding the view from this building. In the beginning, opening a bookstore on a mountain sounds like an insane idea. But, in order to realize the dream of this city, and to make Taiping Elementary School a place of nurturing hopes, Taiping Bleu&Book settled here. In 2021, the opening of the bookstore was the cultural event of the year in Keelung. An opening of an independent bookstore could attract nearly a thousand people, this is the recognition given to Keelung by the public. “School is where knowledge is taught and where hopes are created. Since the closure of Taiping Elementary School, the city government has been thinking about the future of this place. It is extremely meaningful for it to become a bookstore, and the engine of municipal affairs,” said mayor of Keelung, Lin Yu-chang.
Bookstores are the engine of city values and new concepts. In recent years, the urban management strategies in Keelung have been based on culture, exploring the beauty of history in Keelung, and rendering the beauty of history into the beauty of the city. The establishment of Shawan Cultural Park of History is one example, Taiping Bleu&Book is another important one. Run by BleuBook Cultural Production, Bookstore “Bleu&Book” locates in HuaShan 1914 Creative Park, Sun Li-jen Residence in Pingtung, Sisi Nan Cun and Daan Forest Park, all carrying regional features. As the spirit of the city, they serve both as the window and the platform.
Located in the gorgeous scenery in Taiping Elementary School, Taiping Bleu&Book is not just the window which promotes cultural devotion in Keelung, it is going to have a great impact on the deepening of art and history, evoking diverse and immense local energies.
The purpose of Taiping Bleu&Book is to become the “lighthouse of knowledge” on the mountain of west coast Keelung. As a bookstore that looks back from the mountain and the ocean, with books as a starting point, Taiping Bleu&Book looks forward to promoting reading culture in Taiwan, igniting the fire of thoughts. In the future, there will be all sorts of art and cultural events here to bring the public again, the west coast Keelung with magnificent history. Also, the mayor expects that Taiping Bleu&Book is not merely a bookstore, but a place to create hopes and possibilities. Turning the impossible into the possible and realizing expectations and thoughts of the public, these are the significance of Taiping Bleu&Book settling down in Keelung.
1915YM Oceanic Culture & Art Museum
This was originally a dock building owned by the NYK Line during the Japanese colonial period; today it is one of the ten most important historic buildings in Keelung. Managed by Yang Min Marine Co. today, the museum’s mission is to reuse the historic building and display Keelung Harbor’s historical relics. With themes from different periods and diverse oceanic culture resources, visitors are given an understanding of Keelung’s harbor city culture. Moreover, the museum is located on the left side of Keeling Station; YM Oceanic Culture & Art Museum is the first civil museum in Keelung. Reconstructed in 2003, it was an important construction of the wharf on the west coast during Japanese ruling time, so it connotes a special meaning. In order to pass along oceanic culture, it has infused new oceanic horizons into the historic spit based on oceanic culture and humanistic art. Its interior decoration is magnificent and a place worth to visit.
